Here’s a quick dive into what’s new!

Updates as of November 2024

RECENT SOCIAL MEDIA UPDATES

The feature will share contextual notes within the Reels feed that will explain why a clip is performing well, providing valuable information on how to create your Reels for maximum performance and results.

  1. YouTube Shorts has extended its video length limit to 3 minutes. This feature was the most requested by creators who wanted more flexibility and scope to share more detailed videos in portrait format.

  1. Instagram is testing the ability to add a link to a reel. This is to allow content creators to connect their short-form videos with other content.

  1. X is rolling out a real time trend analysis tool, allowing users to spot emerging trends as they happen. The feature was previously known as Insights and, you guessed it- it’s only available to Premium+ users.

  1. Snapchat has introduced two new places for advertising- Sponsored Snaps and Promoted Places on the Snap map. Sponsored Snaps are a new type of ad format that lets businesses engage with customers through visual messaging, while Promoted Places are sponsored areas of interest on snap maps to help people discover places they want to visit.

  1. LinkedIn has introduced a new feature similar to that of YouTube Shorts. Following in the footsteps of TikTok, Instagram & YouTube, the new feature aims to boost user engagement and enhance visibility through snappy, short-form video content.

  1. Always regret not adding certain image to your photo dump? Good news- Instagram is working on allowing users to add photos/videos to a carousel after it has been uploaded.

  1. TikTok has launched a Search Ads Campaign tool which enables ‘sophisticated keyword-based ads which specifically target TikTok’s search results page’. For users, the ads will appear the same, but for advertisers, there will be numerous new features and targeting capabilities available to help them get more out of their ads.

  1. YouTube is testing a feature that allows creators to fix videos that have been flagged as going against Community Guidelines or age restrictions.

  1. Instagram has come under recent criticism for admitting that they lower the quality of videos if they aren’t watched for a long time. Mr Mosseri said Instagram reduced the quality of videos that had not been watched for a long time – saying most views occurred soon after publication.’
